Akhnoor town is situated 40 kilometers away from chamb border (Pakistan) and river Chenab (Chanderbhaga) which flows towards Pakistan . The Akhnoor town is famous for its historical monuments like ancient Pandav cave of Mahabharta times.

Ambaran -place of Buddhist. The holy Dalai Lama visited Nov 2011 old Kameshwar temple,Jiapota Ghat where the tilak ceremony of Maharaja Gulab Singh Ji was performed and the day is celebrated every year on 21 st October. Akhnoor is the centre place of many villages. The population of this town is more than one lakh including adjoining villages.

Maharaja Hari Singh Cent. Public School was started in 1982 on the eve of DAV centenary celebration and school was named Maharaja Hari Singh as Maharaja Hari Singh was the Maharaja of the J and K before independence. We are the one of the best school in the town. The school was initially started with the strength of 50 students in a rented building.

Mr. S.P Raina was the founder principal of the school. The school is affiliated to CBSE – NEW DELHI. Now the school has its own building over an area of 2 acre 1 marla. It has 32 rooms including Adm. Block. Beside well equipped laboratories, library and computer.

It has a canteen also. Present strength of the school is 1300(approx) and school has highly qualified, trained and experienced staff. School provides a magnificent campus, airy and hygienic classrooms with transport facility from all corners.
 

Under the administration of Mr. VIPIN KUMAR SHARMA (Principal) , now school is upgraded to Senior Secondary level from 2022.
